anyone adding potassium supplements to their tank?
« on: August 10, 2018, 15:23:57 »
I cant seem to get any gonipora's to survive and extend.  I tested for iodine and potassium and both were low.  My potassium level was a 320.  Just wondering what others might me using to raise their levels? Looking at the brightwell it will take 2 bottles to bring my level up to 400 and one bottle of red sea.  Are there any other options available?
thanks
Jeff

Following. I haven’t had much success with Goni either.

Maybe Steve will chime in with some of his parameters and advise.

I haven’t tried Gonis but I did use the 3 pack of Red Sea colors a while back. Mostly for Potassium. Dosed it up to 400. It was down to 350 I believe.

What you need Justin is a ca reactor.  Once it is set up you pretty much dont have to deal with any of that stuff.  I hardly ever test my calcium and test alk ever couple of weeks to see if I need to adjust my ph level within the reactor.  You can use your apex to control it.

I thought most people went away from ca reactors? I know nothing about them.

Really nice Justin.  If your interested you can stop out and chat about a reactor.  I have used mine for years and it is dead nuts simple.  No hassling with 2 part or dosing!!!!!!

My potassium is 320 and Iodine is 0. No problem keeping Goni's here.

Reactors work better if you have a reasonable ca/alk load.  Co2 can create ph problems also, Chaeto can help suck up the CO2 though.  Refilling co2 tanks sucks.....especially if your tank needs recertification.

If you have an apex, automated doses are eazy to setup too.
