Dry Rock
« on: May 28, 2011, 03:40:23 »
I am looking to order some Dry Rock in the very near future, I am looking at anywhere from 50-100#'s of it... I have been looking at the BRS Reefsaver rock...

Anyone else in need of any before I place my order? Maybe we could save a few bucks by placing one big order if anyone else may be interested

I was thinking about ordering a much smaller amount of Marco dry rock from premium aquatics, when we get the group order together. From what I hear from other members, its great rock?

I was looking at the reef saver rock from BRS(I like the idea behind it, and the style)
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/brs-reef-saver-dry-aquarium-eco-rock.html

I also was looking at the key largo rock from marcorocks
http://www.marcorocks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=100&HS=1

The BRS is a bit more expensive but only by a few cents... I did not know that PA carried any rock, I searched for some but I guess I was to tired last night and over looked it.

I have 65# of Fiji atm... the only thing kinda holding me back on the brs is the look is much different from what Ihave now, so I'm trying to decide if mixing the two will yield the results I am looking for.

And Micki the size doesn't matter much to me, I am going for price and looks, if it's to big I will just cut it or break it up.

I'll pull out what I have this weekend and take some pics.

I would say so, especially with as nice of a property you have.

We moved here in 1983 then Randy built our house in 1994 on our same property.  Things have gone down hill a good bit since then.  Kind of makes me sick.

Both of my boys live in the village.  Depending on what way you came (whitehorse trail) you might have passed both of them.  My oldest lives on the corner of white horse and the main road. They keep their house and yard very nice.  My youngest lives 3 houses down. Randy built his house 2 years ago so it's nice as well.  Except for the tree that fell on his back yard fence from the storm.  They will have that cleaned up this weekend!  We have complained to the council and nothing ever really happens.     :angry4:

I'm not sure which way we came, do either of them have a gazillion cars? we came the way with the house with like 20+ cars parked infront of it.

Yep, that's white horse trail...My youngest son lives across the street from the gazillion car place!  His was the tan color vinal sided house with the porch around the house.  Supposedly the gazillion car issue is going to be dealt with.  I've heard that before...  >:(

Fiji rock and the "Reef Saver" rock, or Marco Rock will look significantly different.   I don't think I would mix the two of them.

The Saver Rocks coming from a dead reef typically "out of water"  Which is slowly eroded by the rain water.  This makes the rock very porous and open.   When I first got my shipment from Marco, I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but when I put some in water to start cycling, It's going to look fine, it stacks nicely too.

Here is the dry rock I have.  I don't remember what any of it is.  I had it in my aggressive tank a few years ago. The total of all the rock is 65lbs. I've labled each rock for it's weight.
#1 2lb

#2 front - back 4lb

#3 front - back 12lb

#4 front - back - cave 10 lb

#5 2 lb

#6 top - bottom 6lb

#7 front - cave - bottom 18lb

#8 6lb

Wow micki! Thank you for taking the time and effort to take pictures and post them in such an organized manner. This should make getting rid of them all kinds of easy. That is if your willing to part w all of it? What are the prices?

I would like to, but not 100% sure yet.  My son may be having surgery at OSU again.  I don't think it will be that soon, but then again, they may want to move on this faster.  I'm planning on going to Coral Ranch today (in a few minutes or so).  I don't know if you are near there or on the path to them somewhere...

Where your coming from, I'm probably on the way to coral ranch. Although its not a dire issue for me to buy some rock from you today. Thats why I was asking about the meeting. I'm interested in rocks #1 and #9.
On a more serious note, I can only hope that the surgery goes through without any issues and he is okay afterwards.

Well, as it turns out, I won't be going to coral ranch today.  Rich just called me and what I was hoping to get won't be in unto next week.  I'll probably going next Thursday.  As far as going to the meeting or not, I thinkn it's at Mikes house in Tipp.  If so I can always drop it off to him and you could get it at the meeting.  As I said I'm hoping to go but things can change fast!

Thank you for the thoughts on my son.  Crazy as it is, he is 27 years and has avascular necrosis of his right hip.  He may be headed for hip replacement.  :(    Due to his complicated respiratory situation (he has COPD due to premature birth) it's very tricky for him to be under general ansethic.  There is always the fear of him becoming dependant on the ventilator.  OSU is where his lung specialist is hence we will only have surgery at OSU.  He did awesome when he had his gallbladder removed last December!  They had a special anesthesiologist that works with high risk pulmonary patients taking care of him.  The surgeon also did an uber fast GB removal so he wasn't under long at all.  Hip replacement however would be a longer surgery...The people over there are AWESOME!!!
