Algae or something else"
« on: October 30, 2016, 17:08:53 »
Can anyone ID this red algae like stuff on the frag plug?  Can I kill it with a peroxide dip?

Thanks,
Kelly

Agreed ^^

It is also referred to as red turf algae.

Can become a big problem. I would recommend getting rid of that frag asap.

Just IMO :)

Thanks for the ID guys.
I'll try a peroxide dip.

Brian,
Your inbox is full and I don't have any extra pink and gold yet.  I am in the process of photographing and making a list of my extras.

The peroxide dip worked on the algae and didn't harm the zoas.  1 part hydrogen peroxide and 4 parts tank water dipped for 5 minutes in case anyone needs the formula.
Thanks guys,
Kelly

keep an eye out for the algae in your tank. Little minuscule pieces will break off and propagate in the most un-handy places.

I really like the H2O2 dip for getting rid of algae

So the dip will not harm zoas? Have a nice frag of bam bam that is getting overtaken by thread algae. Would be great if I could dip it.

Didn't hurt mine.  They stayed closed for a day or two but are happy now that the algae is gone.
