Rebuilding\Reinforcing stand for 144g tank.
« on: December 12, 2014, 14:49:42 »
Hey guys,

I finally got the 180 sold and out of my house, so it's time to start on the tank that's replacing it, a Oceanic 144g half circle tank.  The problem is that the previous owner had a stand build by a cabinet maker, that wasn't quite up to the task.  While being pretty well built, I'm unsure why one of the supports broke, so I'm planning on reinforcing the entire stand so that this won't happen in the future.

It looks like the back of the stand is the weakest, my thought was to replace the broken support, add two more, and shim some of the joints "not pictured" that have gaps in them.  The front and side are all hardwood, so I'm thinking they will be ok, construction is similar to the rest of the stand otherwise.  The 2x6 was the previous owners quick fix which will be removed.  The back will also be replaced due to the hackjob that was done on it.

Take a look at the pics, let me know if you see anything I'm missing, the rebuild will start shortly.
