Intro
« on: January 31, 2007, 13:59:43 »
This may be a little late, but thought I would intro my self. I currently have a 24x24x20 (40ish G?) cube reef, but I'm getting ready to move it all into a 48x48x24 cube. just need to get the floor laid in the room I'm setting it up in. I will probably put together some type of build thread when the time comes. But hear is a pic of it the night we picked it up in the ATL. The can is in the pic for reference, not really sure why,I've just seen others do that with rock/skimmers, etc.  :D

Looks pretty cool, is the overflow in the center?

Yes the over flow is in the middle, but I am going to eliminate it and build a Calfo on the back. It will be viewable from 3 sides.  I plan to drill it for a couple of closed loops on the bottom and back as well. I will post progress once I have any.

Welcome to Ohio Reef. Nice tank!. Your new tank looks like the same size as cward's on CORA.

3 sides is almost as good as four and still very cool.  i wanted mine to be three sides, but ended up chickening out.  now i regret it.

So, I'm almost finished with the room that the new cube is going into.  Just thought I would let you what happened. I was in the process of hanging trim around a window and crown molding and I shot my finger with my nail gun. It was only an 18 gauge and it missed the bone, but it still hurts like an SOB.  :'(

The nail went through the wood then my finger, so I had to pull my finger off the nail. Just for the record I blame baggerhog for this cause he just asked me a couple days before if I had ever shot myself and I hadn't.  I'll post a pic as soon as my camera stops acting up.

Sorry about your finger...  And, when you post pics, make sure to put a can in for reference!   ;D

As long as the new tank is undamaged, what's a little pain and blood?   ;D  And I would blame baggerhog whether it's his fault or not.   :D

Yea its all my fault. But the reason I have so much invested in this hobby is all his fault. He got me into this hobby and its cost me a fortune. I just bought a new Turbo 5000 twin skimmer just so he could see it in action. Haha jk but he did make me set it up the first time he came over and I had not got around to it. Funny thing about the nail gun incident is he was working on my hood when I asked him. He very cocky said no it would be really hard to do that.

Well.. the tank is plumbed and every frickin MPT adapter has a leak. I guess sequence pumps require pipe dope?  I also have a leak at a threaded fitting in the back of my tank in the corner, four feet from the edge and plumbed through the wall. Not quite sure how I'm fixing that one.....

I like your thinking. Duct tape or sledge hammer is where my mind is right now.

For the sequence pumps.  I just use tons of Teflon tape and tighten it in. I did have a problem with a drain plug on one leaking, I think i doped it(it has a gasket) I have read about people using silicone on the threads.  Never tried it but i read it on wet web media so it can not be that crazy of idea.

Did you use teflon tape or pipe dope?  Some pipe dope will self seal after a day or so.   If teflon tape, no such luck.

Not exactly that stuff unless it leaks this time. I have now doped everything and used other stuff where I couldn't dope and am in the process of re-filling with tap to check for leaks. I just need to figure out how to get this much rock:

Into this much tank:

Well there is still one leak, but I think the six gallons of PVC glue will take care of that. Thanks to Andy (baggerhog) for helping me with the rock.  For reference that is a 4 foot level in the pics. And the pop can is back.

Rest of the pics can be found here.
