fancy smancy clowns
« on: March 14, 2018, 10:22:49 »
thought that I would see everyones opinion on the designer clowns?  If you like them post up which ones are your favorites and maybe a pic or two.  I personally am not fond of an all white clowns or mostly white ones.  The only ones I think are kind of cool are the lightning ones.  I myself have a pair of black and white ones and a pair of plain ole ocellaris clowns.

Those all are pretty nice looking.  Miles is the second pic of a maroon?  I had a maroon years ago before I had a reef tank and man was that fish mean.  that one is pretty cool.  The ones I dont like are when they are mostly white.  Frostbites are pretty nice looking.  How the heck are they breeding this all into the clowns?

The second one is a low grade Lightning Maroon....it probably should have been culled, it has a deformed dorsal fin... but that made it fairly cheap for me.

They are breeding for the specific traits over several generations, basically just choosing the ones they like the looks of and then a fraction of the next generation exhibits the same trait... repeat the process with the offspring that exhibit more of the trait than the others. The next big thing is the color blue (https://reefbuilders.com/2018/03/05/blue-clownfish/)

Yes.... I am fairly certain that they are full blooded Darwins too and not some sort of designer hybrid. The ones in the picture are offspring from another pair that I have that I can trace back to 2008 which I believe was before the whole designer rage started.

Check out the Clownfish Breeding Log in my sig for baby pics....
