What happened to my coral?
« on: May 22, 2018, 17:16:13 »

I pulled out the coral and had to suck out the remaining slimy goo with a turkey baster. Anybody know what this is? It developed sometime between yesterday and today. Everything else in the tank has been doing great.

Alk is 9.0. I’ve been getting awesome growth lately dosing trace elements but at the same time my coralline has been taking off. I believe this caused my magnesium dropped to 1200 so I’ve started dosing BRS mag mix 300 ml daily to get that up. Which has also slightly raised my salinity from 1.025 to a little over 1.026 nearing 1.027. So maybe it is a combination of a little of everything.

That is brown jelly disease (bacteria)
It attacks sps but not as common as lps.

It is likely caused by the enchinata coral. Probrably hit it last night. It can dissolves the tissue and then bacteria sets in.

Thanks Brian, do you think I would have better luck if I placed a mushroom or LPS in its place?

The enchinata coral may see that as a threat and attack it as well. Probray needs a good 3”-4” clearance
