So i did it
« on: November 12, 2017, 09:32:55 »
I ripped out all of my rock work from my tank is now down in my sump. My fish aren't too happy about it. Reason for this was I have having troubles with stability of nitrate. Damn it if didn't find where it was all coming from. Sand bed was just full of crap. So been cleaning out my sand bed going to put less rock back in the display to encourage more flow around the rock work. Will post some pics.

I left just a small pile of sand under several rocks that I placed my tube anemones under.  The anemones attached to the underside of the rocks and have been doing well.  I think I could remove the sand completely and they would be fine.

Glad you figured that out. I am sure your fish will like the new scape once it’s done

So I have been lazy haven't done anything with the tank fish aren't too happy about it. Problem is I am not sure how what to do. Should I drain the tank and get new sand or should I just leave the old?

I would pull the sand and clean it......that can be a nasty job though.

should be able to vacuum the sand into a filter sock into your sump put the rock back in the display get a good clean up crew  and do a water change in a couple days
everything should be fine and happy

Good job. I think a giant clam would look great in the open space on the left.

120 gallon mixed reef.

That is quite the change, lots of room for fish. Nice job
