Who uses a sterilizer? And do you believe it has been beneficial? .

I use one on my frag tank.  I got it to help avoid any algae problems caused by heavy feeding and nitrate dosing.  Haven't had any diseases in fish or coral since using.  Is there an issue you are trying to solve with a UV sterilizer?

Hi Kelly. I got a 25 watt UV sterilizer for this build. I’m planning on low flow for disease control. About 400 gph.

Do you how how much flow you are running through yours, and how many watts?

My understanding is higher flow is good for algae control only. Lower flow gives longer exposure time to critters.

Mike,
I have the 25 watt (this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BJP4X8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I am running it at about 75 GPH.  400 GPH sounds a little high to effectively kill critters.

Hmmmm.

I got this one - https://www.marinedepot.com/Aqua_UV_25_Watt_3_4_inch_UV_Sterilizer_Ultraviolet_Sterilizers_for_Saltwater_Aquariums-Aqua_Ultraviolet-AV2191-FIUVUU-vi.html
The chart says 400-480 gph for a fish only tank to control disease, and 800-1200 gph for a reef tank to control algae.
I need to do a bit more research I think.

Thanks for the info Kelly.

Mike,
Interesting about the different flow rates.  Mine came from BRS recommended rates.  https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/emperor-aquatics-smart-uv-25-watt.html
Maybe I'm cooking the critters too long.  Always more to research...
