frogspawn placement. please help
« on: January 25, 2018, 13:35:26 »
About a year ago, I had a frogspawn.  I fought with this coral for months, trying to find it's happy home.  i went high, low, in flow, out of flow, minimal flow, and nothing worked.  NOTHING.  After a few months, I ended up seeing him recede, and eventually disappear for good.  SO I never bought another.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago.  I bought an octospawn from ERKY.  i have played with trying to find him a happy spot in my tank.  Again, it is NOT happy.  I have him out of direct light/flow, and located about 6-9" above sand.  not in direct light.  He has come out of his skeleton very slightly.  I can see his purple heads, but nothing to say he's "out".  He's been in the same place for about a week now.  I'm trying not to move him around much.  but he is definitely not coming out to play

I don't have pictures of him to share.  I can get them tonight.  but for now, can anyone lend me some advice on where he should be placed?  I struggled before with placement, and am finding the same issue now.

hey bud, sorry to hear about this, i know you were concerned when you got it. Can you post your tank levels please? the octo is in pretty decent flow right next to my gyre 230, it is also in about 400 par in my tank.

my tank is usually 4-7 nitrates, .04-.08 po4, alk 9.3-9.5, ca 380-425, mag 1350.

Calcium - 370-400
Alkalinity - 8.5-9.0

In the past I lost both a frogspawn, as well as a torch coral.  same thing happening to both.

What temp do you keep your home? I agree 82f could be to high. For example if your thermometer is say 2f off it could be 84f. Cooler is much better then warmer.

I keep my octospawn in a lower flow area on the sand bed and it seems to do okay. My daily temp swing is 80-82.5. High nutrient system.

I decided to drop it down towards the sand, and off to the side, towards the back of the tank.  Still in view.  But it doesn't get a lot of flow back there.  It's near my lobo.  Once I did that, I noticed it started to come out a tad.  so I am seeing movement.  let's see how it carries out.
