Home built canopy.
« on: October 05, 2006, 00:13:53 »
Hello all, I just finished the assembly of my DIY canopy and was wondering if I should just stain the inside, or paint it white, any suggestions? Does it make that big of a difference? Now that I have the canopy made it looks like I am going to have to make a new stand to. ;D  I also had a question about the light arrangement. I have 1=36watt T-5 fixture, and 1=110watt pc light fixture. My initial thought was to mount the T-5s in the center, and split the pc bulbs one in front and one in back of the T-5s. Does this sound like a good idea? I will have both the lights on different timers so that the T-5s will come on first and go out last. My thought on this was that the T-5s are much dimmer than the pcs maybe giving a dawn, and dusk effect. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks again and God bless.

What Travis said sounds good.  I've never heard of Killz, what is that Travis?

kilz is a stain blocker primer and they now have kilz paint as well. i am not sure why it would be better than an epoxy paint though? i would us epoxy paint. a little more expensive but will last for the life of the hood.(blocks mildew and mold also)

Another question for ya'll, should I add a cooling fan to this setup? The entire back of the canopy is open, but I know the pcs put off some decent heat.

i read a thread on rc that said the same bulbs were tested in the same fixture with the fans on and off. The par was about double with the fans on. I would say add the fans.

this thread is specifically about t5's but it would be interesting to test all the other lights too. I would have never thought about doing the test.

That is really interesting. :o I would have never thought of that as far as the par being so much better due to better air circulation. Should I cut both sides for fan holes, and leave one side empty for ventilation, or just cut the one side out for the fan and let the hot air escape out the back of the canopy?

I have 2 fans on my canopy. One draws in the other blows out. Although I do have a closed canopy.   :)

I think I got mine from Hello lights when I bought my lights.  I don't rmember the cost.  I believe they are 4 inch fans. You could check their website and price match from there. :)
