Strange "film" on water surface
« on: October 21, 2017, 10:59:52 »
So I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but at one corner of my tank I have a "rust colored film" sitting on the water surface. I am not sure what is it or what has caused it, although I am wondering if it is the Cobalt Coral Food, as it is the same color. Just wondering if anyone else has seen/had this, is it a bad thing, and what can be done as idea from "skimming" if off with a fish net?

It is more than likely just built up proteins, or a small increase in bacteria......it is similar to what you find in your skimmer.  Get a little more surface agitation, it will help keep that from building up, and will also help with gas exchange.

see if your return line or powerheads are actually pushing the film into the corner. ive had this happen and my return lines were blowing the film away from the overflow so it collected in the dead corners.
