First signs of coralline
« on: February 20, 2016, 10:07:11 »
So this week I started noticing spots of purple throughout the tank. On rocks, on the back glass, on thermometer sensor. I'm so happy as I guess this means I am doing at least some things right! Took about 3 1/2 months. Don't know if that's good or not. All I know is it's a milestone for me!

coralline is a love hate relationship.  Love the color on everything but can be a pain to keep cleaned off the glass.  it is very stubborn to scrape off.  Water chemistry must do doing well.

Also once it gets going really well it can be a big consumer of the same elements that corals want so you will have to replenish them more often. (Alk, cal, mg) But it certainly beats looking at the wall behind your tank! So I typically let the glass against the wall color up as much as it wants but keep all the other glass scraped off. For the really stubborn stuff a gasket scraper with a razor blade works well in glass tanks. Just be careful not to scratch stuff
