Help
« on: April 17, 2017, 13:24:00 »
Can anybody tell me what this is? I believe it is red turf algae and there is hardly any talk about this on any of the forums. Only treatment I read is good luck and take it all out and start over. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Matt,
I had red turf algae on some of my frags recently.
Check this thread:  http://ohioreef.com/index.php?topic=20669.msg173098#msg173098
The peroxide dip worked for me, but if you have to treat the entire tank, I would suggest the fluconazole that seems to work on different types of algae.
Kelly

I am currently treating for green turf algae with fluconzole. First time around it took 4 weeks, 2 doses. It appeared to be all gone. A month later it's back. I think the turf algae is tougher to kill than bryopsis or gha. I ordered enough to do 4 treatments,  2 weeks for each dose.  I can tell it is weakened from the 1st attempt as it is turning white/gray after 7 days. It took 2 weeks to see any affect my first attempt

Does it blow off. several months ago I thought i had the same thing but it was cyano outbreak. If i didn't blow it off right away it stuck to the rock like in your pic. I finally gave in and used chemi clean and cleared it right up

Did the forums mention giving all of your corals to your enemies?

Just wanted to post an update on my situation. It appears the treatment is working. The algae problem I would say is about 70 percent better. I am going to do a second treatment in a few more weeks.
