The answer to large tank algae issues?
« on: June 24, 2017, 22:03:03 »
Just wanted to share this. I know that most algae issues are nutrient related and best solved that way, but if you have a large tank and need to remove some filamentous algae, consider a sailfin tang. I had several species of GH type algae and a fair amount of bubble algae established in my tank. My yellow tang would pick at it, but wasn't really removing any substantial amounts. I added a Desjardini Sailfin and can not believe the amount of algae this fish eats. I mean it mowed this stuff down, plus adding a little extra nitrate to the water has help control my phosphates, which was a big part of my issues to begin with. So far a great addition to my tank.

I have a desjardini also.  The only fish I've ever had that will really go after bubble algae.

Pretty peaceful too for a zebrasoma. I have a pacific sailfin tang too but he's not as good an Algea eater.
