Ich or something else?
« on: August 25, 2017, 14:41:09 »
I think I may be in trouble here for a couple reasons. I do not have a sick/qt, so it will be extremely difficult to isolate the fish. We noticed these white dots on out powder blue. The only recent changes to the tank have been a peppermint shrimp and a starfish about a month ago. Powder blue has been in for about 3 months, and was clean when we got him.

Here he is, spots and all

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Jordan

And just did a 30g (25%) water change last weekend before this showed up.

I have a 30 gallon setup that is just sitting around you can use.  Better move fast or this guy will be gone pretty fast.

Do I need to pull out all fish, or just the Tang for it?

If you want to get rid of all ich from your tank you need to allow your display tank to remain fish free for around 45 days if I am remembering right.  That is the life cycle of ich.  Once a fish has ich like your pb the ich cyst will fall off and live in the tank looking for another host fish.  If your remove the fish from the tank, treat them in a separate tank with copper or what ever your choice to use, then leave the display tank fallow you should beat the ich.  Tangs are known to be bad for ich and the pb are one of the worst.  If you want to borrow the 30 gallon shoot me a text or call 937 232-6348 and you can come out and get it.

Good luck. Are you going to try cupramine? Maybe CP?

Quick update: Tang, six line, and chromis are now in qt. Still need to capture/trap pink spot goby and yellow watchman goby. The pistol shrimp is not helping in this area.

ck out this video on a 2 liter bottle trap.  I caught my dragon goby with mine.  Just baited it and let it set overnight and the goby was caught in it the next day.

Lost the Tang. Not sure if it was from ich, or from ammonia levels in the qt. Was originally afraid of putting him in that tank to start with because of bioload. Either way, going to continue the quarintine on the others to make sure tank is clear and need to do a water change asap on the qt to bring levels down.

sorry to hear that Jordan.  I didnt think to let you have the ammonia test kit that I had.  I would still follow your plans and leave the tank empty of fish for 6 to 8 weeks, then be sure to get  fully quarantined fish from Lazy.
