Absolutely the staple of water storage. A good rinse when new and then they are good to go. No worries.

no problem. I have 2 42 gallon and a 32 gallon Brute.

1 42 is always full of RODI water.
2nd 42 is used to mix.

the 32 is used for water changes.

After I have added salt to my water I drop a powerhead into the barrel that way I know when my water has had salt added to it.  I may have a drum of water sitting for several weeks before I do a water change so that way I know it has salt mixed into it.

I have a Powerheads in my salt container but not in my fresh. I’ve heard you should airate your freshwater for 24 hours before mixing salt to burn off co2 but I never do.  I do wait 24 hours before using mixed water.

I would think aerating would increase the CO2. Unless you’re aerating it with a CO2 scrubber

Actually co2 will be bubbled out with an air stone.  One test to see if co2 is reducing your tanks ph levels is to aerate the test water outside with an air pump and retest the water to see if co2 has been removed and ph levels increased.

It will be bubbled out only if you’re water/aerator is outside. If you have mammals in your home and decent weather proofing, you will have excess CO2 in your home unless you have some kind of fresh air recirculating.
