Title: Ohioreef's Biocube 32 LED Build
Post by: ohioreef on December 30, 2018, 20:53:50
I finally found my desired tank and picked it up today.

I ended up with a Coralife Biocube 32LED. I found one that was up and running complete with stand. The seller just had some liverock, corals, snails and crabs. He was having problems with algae and was just getting rid of it. It came complete with a RODI unit and some extra accessories! It even has a Jaebo powerhead complete with controller.

I am going to keep the rock, but I am going to make a new start with new substrate and water. The corals, snails and crabs are currently hanging out in Ohioreefjr's tank until I get mine up and running. The liverock is in a plastic tub with a couple powerheads and heater.

I'm currently in the process of cleaning up the tank and hope to get it filled and running in the next couple days. I've attached a few pics of what I've done so far.

I have a question, what's the current thought on how deep and what size the substrate should be? My old 75 had sugar fine sand and was about 3" deep. The sugar fine blew around so easily so I'm wanting to use something larger and less likely to blow around. Ohioreefjr is using something a little bigger, pic below, in his nano.

Looks like a good start with your equipment.  The sand size looks good also.  I myself only run maybe an inch or so of sand, just enough for looks.  I dont like the idea of deep sand beds, I feel they can cause potential problems and not sure the smaller size of your tank would have enough area to help out a lot anyways.  I have a diamond goby in my tank and he does an amazing job of keeping my sand clean.  Plus he is a hoot to watch.

All cleaned up and ready to start putting back together! Found a couple small scratches but I think they’ll disappear once there’s water in it.

Now off to Walmart for 30g if water!

Here are the corals I am housing for ohioreef:

1:) large rock covered in a bunch of green radioactive dragon eye zoas. This rock was covered in hair algae and had 5 or 6 aptaisia on it. Upon putting it in my tank both of my peppermint shrimp, my emerald crab, and about everyone else from the cleanup crew went to town. Now there is one aptaisia and almost no hair algae in it.

2:)green flame polyps. These are gorgeous under the blues

3 and 4:) are two different types of hammer. They both have 3 heads

5:)some form of encrusting coral that appears blue with reddish polyps

6:)a green mushroom with stripes through it

7:)the last one appears to be a type of icy hot/redhead zoa frag

Water in, pump and heater running!  A little cloudy, but she’ll clear up.

If you’re referring to the two right above your post, the first is a birds nest, pocillipora, I believe.

Looks like your off to a good start. I noticed the picture of the mushroom has a couple of planaria flatworms on it. You may want to treat the tank soon flatworm exit before they start populating.

What’s the best way to treat that?

That pic was taken in jr’s tank so we should treat both tanks.

Got a fairly large GSP rock a couple nights ago from Agame43. The only way to really incorporate into my setup was as a base rock so did some re-aquascaping tonight. Wasn’t sure I liked it until I started placing my corals back in.

No, I knew I had them. This is the first time they've ventured out and "cleaned" me. LOL  They've been hiding mostly.

Ahh : ) I love my shrimp. Cracks me up when they jump on my hand and start cleaning.
