Lazy's Fish Bowl
« on: May 31, 2010, 03:44:52 »
Looking at fish and corals top down in a Rubbermaid tub is getting old which got me motivated to get off the couch and work on my new reef tank this weekend.
Since I already have the tank, figured the next step was to build a stand and canopy.

More to come....

LOVE the 4 point design of the stand. I see SO many people "stuck" into believing you need 6 or more vertical structural points to support the load of tank.

Looks real good Brian.

I love the idea of cutting out the holes with a router trim bit.  Looking great. what kind of plywood is that?

Thanks all. Got it finished today with the exception of the stain, doors and light rail. There are a total of 10 doors and I don't have any experience with making nice ones. Time to go check out You Tube.

what kind of plywood is that?

Wes it is 1/4 Oak Plywood.

Have you decided on what stain you are going with?

My goal is to match a Solana QT that will be in the same room. It is called espresso which is really dark brown almost black.

Thanks for the offers, I may end up taking you up on it. I purchased the router table and bits yesterday and gave the stiles and rails a shot. Having trouble getting some tear out so going to try building a coping sled with anti-tear out block to see if that helps

Well I finally got the doors constructed. They were fun to build, but also the most challenging wood working project I have done.

I used this set of Styles and Rails Router Bits from Harbor and Freight. Was a  bit worried they would get dull or not be a good male/female fit but in the end pleased with them.

Rounding the outside edge of a finished door.

Not sure if you can tell in the picture; poured a quart of fiberglass resin over the bottom piece of wood to water seal it.

Those look amazing Brian! I used a set of router bits from Harbor Freight for my arcade and I was really happy with them.
