Just curious if any of you have ever had a sand dollar in your tank? Any luck with it or special care?

If you have a huuuuge (in surface area) deep sand bed, you might be able to keep a small one. They depopulate a smaller sand bed faster than it can replenish all the little critters.

Short answer? The stuff that lives in your sand.

Longer answer? Organic material that ends up in the sand, algae, small copepods, small polychaetes, nematodes, diatoms, dinoflagellates, etc.

If you had a shark or ray tank with lots of open sand, you could probably keep one well-fed.

They're one of the best cleaners around, unfortunately, they are extremely sensitive and die very easily, so no one sells them.
