ID help please
« on: November 23, 2015, 14:00:45 »
Yesterday I had a temperature dip to 73 degrees. Today while feeding I see these tiny spheres with a ton on small "arms". Very light to white in color. I searched and could find anything. I took one out with a turkey baster and put it under my sons microscope. Once I dried some water away minimize movement it really looked like an extremely small anemone. It is about 1 mm, maybe 2mm in diameter. I do have one anemone, a rainbow bubble tip. Could the temp swing cause larvae? I don't know if they do that. Thanks for any advise.

I searched hydroid pictures, the arms aren't that long. It does look like the spiky center of a hydroid. Upon further inspection under the microscope the arms have a peach color to them. This is why I thought it may have been an anemone. I thought that anemones split to reproduce though. If they are hydroids, are they harmful? and should they be removed?
