Have fun with this one
« on: November 10, 2009, 20:21:10 »
Question, I mean  :D

All my algaes are disappearing!???!  Including the macro in my sump.
I thought Tom must have harvested some out of the sump but he hasn't.

The only thing I have going on now is lots and lots of coralline in the display tank.  That figures since my calcium levels were a bit on the high side last time I checked.

I would imagine within another month or so, there may be no algae, macro or otherwise, left in the display tank at all.  What an amazing concept for me  :o

I guess this is what we want to happen, right?

Could be good, could be bad....  It could mean your nutrients are so low that you can't support the growth of algae, which is generally considered a good thing for corals.  It's also possible you're not low on nitrates, but are low on iron which the algae needs.

The only supplement I'm using is Kent Essential Elements, which does contain iron.
I'm hoping it's a good thing!  Except....how to maintain a refugium if macroalgaes don't flourish?

My ball of chaeto still looks good and it's gotten larger since the tank was set up.
