Title: Kenn's 75g Build
Post by: Kenn on July 21, 2013, 14:59:54
I'm Back !!!

After a long time, they have opened my cage door and let me into my playground (garage). I've spent the last few days building the frame for my 75g and today I am going to drill the tank. My first time drilling glass  :o so this should be fun  :not:

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you that have kept in touch while I was out of the game. It's been tough, but things are looking up.

I am looking forward to being back in the discussions here at Ohio Reef.

So.... overflow in the center of tank or closer to the side?   any opinions ?

I prefer the corners....

Post by: Kenn on July 21, 2013, 21:41:48
I've noticed "dead" areas in the past next to overflow boxes close to the corner... Thats why I posed my question. Maybe if I placed it 6" or so from the corner? it's a very small dimension box I got from Glassholes.

In the center, you'll get 2 dead areas if you do a full height box.   You don't have to do an overflow box.   Look at Lazy's build.

Well.. as you can see from the time stamp of the last post "Life happens" took a toll on the 75g build :(

But, this year has been physically better for me. As a result, things got pulled out of storage and supplies as well as equipment were restocked and updated.

This is the trial fit just to see if the location will work before we commit with a filled tank.It sure is helpful to have 2 teenage sons around to help with the setup :)

I will be putting a skin on the stand this week. I have been creating an aquascape for it over the past few months. Ran out of dry rock rubble so I have to order that this weekend so I can complete that little part of the project.

I've been keeping a 20g Long up and running to keep my sanity :) It's been doing so fantastic that I hesitate to mention it for fear of jinxing the whole thing. If you have seen any of the pictures I have been posting, all of the frags/Coral were grown out in the 20g. Anyway, after the 75g cycles, the contents of the 20g will make the long journey (14 feet) to its new home.

Organized people scare me!

I would have you know Sir, that I have a Doctorate degree in Chaos Theory.

As to the organization you see in the photograph; I would have to lay that blame solidly at the feet of my 13yr old. I know it shouldn't be tolerated and I can only blame his Mother as the influence of his actions.

Well, once again I had a fantastic visit to http://lazyscoralhouse.com/  (http://lazyscoralhouse.com/).

If you haven't stopped by recently, you should correct that deficiency in your reef keeping lifestyle.

Also got to meet soldiers4christ50 for the first time. Always nice to have a face to put with the name :)

I believe there may have been other members there when I first arrived but I missed the opportunity to find out. So if that was you speak up!  :be happy:

Anyway, I left very happy with my new acquisitions as well as a gift of a purple pen/stylus (although I did notice a logo on it  :hmmmm:)

Here are 2 things I picked up tonight. Not great pics. I will post better later.

I picked up a new toy today and thought I would share  :be happy:

Considering the area you see in the video is about the size of the flat top on a sewing stick pin I'm pleased with the result.

The tentacles are from the edge of my mini-max nem. This video was taken literally 5 mins out of the box.

Got this little guy up at Lazy's on Sunday. Got him to take a little frozen mysis. He will be in quarantine for 30 days before he goes into the main tank.

Thank you and I certainly hope he will have some personality. However my first concern is keeping him fed through the quarantine.

I would be interested in hearing anyone's opinions or suggestions on feeding and care.

thanks! I set this one up with what I hope will be maximum water flow while using very porous rock. The results that I have gotten with my current setup have exceeded my expectations. It has allowed me to use less rock while not hampering sufficient bacterial colonization.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.

The tank has a little filling out to do. I still have a hard time believing I had everything packed into a 20g long lol.

Although I do say the 20g long was VERY educational.

This was probably my most worrying piece to move. I saved it for last and when I reached down in the tank to grab the rock it was on, it simply let go. I sat there and simply looked at it in complete disbelief for a good 30 seconds lol.

I can't believe I didn't break it.
