20g Long as a QT for 5" fish?
« on: June 29, 2009, 11:33:33 »
Hello everyone. My issue is pretty simple.  I'm working on an upgrade and am trying to figure out if I can use my previous quarantine tank, a generic 20 gallon long tank, for the new fish for the big tank, which is a 125.  The three fish I'm worried about being about to properly QT in this tank are a Flagfin Angel, Hippo Tang, and I'm thinking a Lemonpeel Mimic, but I may go with a Tennenti instead.  From my research, the best size to purchase the fish at is 3-5", so the big question is if they'll be comfortable in the 20L for 2-4 weeks.  What are your thoughts?

Of course, all fish will be in there individually, not all together.

Thanks!

I think it is more of the type of fish then the size (a large clown would be better in that then a medium tang).
What are the dimensions of a 20L.
I have always added my fish directly into the display (I know what everyone is about to say).
I would be worried about stressing the tangs out by being in a small tank.  But then again I've never used a QT so right there you're more responsible then I am  ^-^
Thanks and God Bless,
John

I would try to find a 55 it would give the tang more swimming room I wouldn't put a tang in that small of a tank even for qt.  You can probly find someone that will let you borrow a 55 or I have a 110 gallon tub you could borrow.

The dimensions are 30x12x12.

Jd: Yes, one at a time.

That's what I was thinking as well, Pontiac, but I really wasn't sure.  I may just go out and buy one of those tubs.  Where did you find yours at?

I'm thinking the angel is probably in the same situation.  Does anyone have any thoughts on that one?

I might be wrong but if you go around to some of the sponcers stores and look at what they use to qt fish of all sizes, youll find out that you would be fine for no more time than you want to put them in

I got my tub at tractor supply you're more than welcome to use it for free or I would sell it for $30.

Harley, in most cases I think those are a little taller and closer to 30 gallons.

Pontiac, I have to go by TSC tonight for some stuff anyway.  If that doesn't work out, I will probably have to hit you up.  My only concern with using one is that I don't have a viewing box or anything like that built up for it.

Yeah it would be hard to see the fish.  I think Joel had a used 75 gallon set-up cheap.

Joel did have a 75 for 75 this past weekend...I saw it on Friday, but my wife would've kicked me out of the house if I showed up with that. I don't know if he sold it Saturday or Sunday, but it's worth a PM if you want to ask him
