75g Re-Build
« on: January 09, 2019, 19:19:41 »
Well, I hated to do it but it was necessary. Tank and sump have been cleaned and sterilized. Let’s hope this rebuild is as successful as my first 10 months were originally. I’m reverting everything back to June 2016 when everything was thriving.

Lol! It always kills me when people find something out of the ordinary in a picture! I picked those two clamps up at a dollar store a couple years ago. They aren’t painted, they’re molded in those colors! Way to spot em lol

Thanks to Nbehnken for modding and selling his T5/LED Hybrid fixture. Got my 4 Prime HD’s installed and the fixture hung tonight. Still need to replace the bulbs but waiting for Aquatic Life to send me the new bulb clips....for free!
I love the fixture, it’s a great combo!

Looks good Jesse.  I really like the addition of t5s to leds.  Leds tend to shadow a lot and the t5s really fill in the shaded areas.

First batch of new fish for the 75. They look big in my 29g QT but the biggest fish is the Yellow Tang measuring in at a whopping 2.5” to 3”! Paul @ Gerbers said all these fish have been at the store for at least two weeks. That’s a big reason I went with these particular ones. I know the Naso will outgrow my tank, but I’ve never had this type and wanted to try one out. With my rock work as open as it is, it shouldn’t be much trouble catching him in a year or two.

The yellow I got from gerber’s has been super healthy and happy. Same for the orange shoulder but that had been there three months until I picked it up.

Honestly, I’ve only had a couple fish from Gerbers die on me out of years of buying fish there. I also have to say this was the least painful experience that I’ve ever had because I took the salinity down to 1.021 prior to heading to Gerbers. The fish were actually at 1.022. After about an hour they are swimming around and pecking at the rocks like they’ve been in there forever. The Naso even drastically changed color. So I’m optimistic that all these guys are going to do well.

He’s a cool, peaceful fish. He does pick on the snails a bit. Never seen him actually get one out of its shell yet. Mostly just knocks them off the rocks. He also keeps the tang gang inline. No fighting....

Tank update. Some frags are struggling due to improper placement. Most are doing great. Have a couple experiments going on with a couple of the big frags I got from AV99. Wanting to see what different PAR will do with coloration.

The flow is fantastic in the tank. I have Toby to thank for that!

Indeed. Things are actually working the way they are supposed to work with PAR and such. I’m very thankful.

The very top of both columns, with T5’s & LED’s, are 400+. The WD and OP are at about 300-330 and the Efflo on the right is about 450. Sandbed averages about 200 close to the glass.

An update on the 75g. After discussion with Brian about our similar issues and an unassuming ATI test, I decided to follow Brian’s path and started doing 20% water changes weekly. It’s been about 6 weeks and I’ve been seeing great results. I am now leaning towards the problem being a contaminent. Possibly not rinsing all the bleach/acid out of the rock. Some of the older corals are still in rough shape but the newer sticks are really looking good!

I vacuum 1/2 of the sand weekly. Alternating left side then right side. I also have a pink spot goby on the left side of the tank that sifts that side. You can see his gravel slide in front of his cave. He doesnt stray too far from there.
