Acro Eating Flatworms...
« on: January 02, 2011, 23:28:11 »
Anyone who has purchased, or received a coral from me needs to read this.

I was informed by a club member today that I have AEFW (Acro Eating FlatWorms). Recently I have been having problems with some Acros browning out, and just flat out dieing.

I spent most of my afternoon dipping, and inspecting ALL types of coral that I have. I have found eggs on EVERYTHING. Zoanthids, Monti caps, Denae's, Venosa's, Digi's, even several LPS.

The real kicker is this. I havn't added anything for atleast 6 months. So they have been either dormant, or eating just enough to stay alive until now. If they are in my reef, they are probably in yours.

Symptoms I have seen in my reef:

Suddenly brown acro's.
Brown patches.
Patches of missing tissue.

Further reading with pictures:

Please PM me with results, I am curious as to who has these. Please don't give me any crap for not noticing a nearly invisible pest. You should be thankful that I am kind enough to let people know. If you have them you can blame my lack of a QT process, then look at your own :)

How was it discovered?    Did they see them/the symptoms in your tank, or did they find this doing a Dip of a coral from you?

A dip from a coral they received found them, and helped me figure out the symptoms.

Do you have two small, or smaller ones? Wonder how it will get along with my Green Coris wrasee. He is a real jerk.

I only have med. right now. They seem to get bullied by agressive fish untill they get larger.
