Title: ZOA Parasite ID Help
Post by: NanoDad on March 28, 2018, 10:43:52
This zoanthid has been thriving until recently.  It has not been fully opening over the past week or so and I have noticed two things.  One a white / translucent web like formation at the base, and two white / translucent ball shapes in the center, they almost look like moth balls.  Any idea what this is?  I am going to carefully remove this zoa and discard it from the tank.

Hi Nano. I wouldn’t remove them. I’m no expert but the top arrow appears to be pointing to a pineapple sponge. They are harmless and may actually benefit your water quality because they are filters. How long has the tank been up and running? They usually pop up in new systems and start disappearing after a couple of months.

I had these sponges come and go over the 2 years I had my last tank up and running.

You can leave them or pull them out.

Some I left, but pulled the ones growing in my zoas.
