Title: Tropic Marin DynoX
Post by: Keith92 on January 06, 2019, 20:11:16
Has anyone had any experience with DynoX?
My new tank has been up and running for one month and I have what I believe to be Dyno's. Brown, stringy with bubbles.  I changed gfo and carbon today and started a 3 day lights out regimen.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this dino problem. I dealt with them when I started my 40. Don't know if you are checking your phosphates but as soon as I let mine rise a bit they went away and haven't came back since. Not sure if you have the new tank on the same system as your large display but if not I'd quit the GFO. Anyways you have likely read about DinoX already and in case you aren't aware it is specific to a certain species if I remember correctly.

Dinos are in every tank. Your tank is cycling right now and I wouldn't be to concerned about it. Definitely stop the GFO and I really don't think carbon is necessary either. I would stop water changes until you start to see a rise in nutrients. Allow the cycle to happen. I have successfully treated for dinos before with hydrogen peroxide. Being that you are a month into it I would give it a bit longer before I would try dosing.

Agree with no GFO

Keith, what are your nitrates and phosphates reading?

Absolutely gorgeous. One day I’ll get a stand that tall.... so that’s what you’re getting Dino in!?

Thank you. The cabinet is the reason I purchased this tank.  I found it on craigslist and was told it was originally in a local law office.
I wanted a Custom Low Iron Rimless tank but the $3500 was not in the cards for me at this time. This was a great plan B.
I moved all the rock from my 90 gallon tank and added some new dry rock. All the sand is new.  I thought by using the old rock and a bottle of Dr. Tim's bacteria that I would avoid these issues.

125 gallons.  I have the lights on top and connected to power strips on the wall. The power strips are then connected to the apex in the stand for all the controls.  By unplugging 3 cords I can lift the canopy off. It's pretty easy with two guys. My wife can do it but struggles a bit.  Haha
