180 gallon stocking ideas
« on: August 30, 2011, 18:44:10 »
So I am starting to look into what will be in the new 180. It will be a mixed reef with tons of corals and barebottom. I will be transferring most of my 125 to it. So far the fish from the 125 that will be making the transition are:

Sailfin Tang
Powder Brown Tang
Yellow Eye Tang
Algae Blenny
Engineer Goby
2 yellow clown gobies
5 blue/green chromis
mandarin
2 black clowns

I am up in the air about my 2 regular oscellaris.

Other things that I would like and am thinking about

2 yellow tangs (generic but I think I want the big spots of yellow)
5-7 anthias of some sort (open to suggestions)
1 Wrasse (some sort, probably just a sixline since I will be barebottom)
3 banggai cardinals
7 stop light cardinals
2 black clown gobies

I would love to have an achilles tang but don't think it will be an option.

I am open to just about anything reef safe with great color. Let me hear some thoughts and suggestions!!

Firefighting:  How hard can it be?  You just put the wet stuff on the red stuff right?

57 Rimless SPS/LPS in the works

OLD:180g mixed reef, 60g sump, 2 30g frag tanks, 30g macro algae tank.  300g total system.

Several thoughts:
I'd be concerned with the two yellow Tangs, since you have a sail fin already.
Will the gobies (yellow and engineer) be ok w/o sand?
Aren't the black clowns somewhat aggressive? I would hesitate on two pairs.
This doesn't mean that I haven't seen people do this I just would be careful.
Thanks and God Bless,
John

My sailfin right now is about 6 inches.  If I add the two yellows together and they are much smaller than the sailfin I don't think there would be much problem.

The yellow clown gobies should be fine without sand as they just sit on the corals all day.  The engineer I'm not real sure about.  Mine doesn't really burrow in the sand, but that doesn't mean he won't ever.  I am looking for input on that.

I have the two pairs of clowns in my 125 now and they do just find together.  I just don't know if I want to carry over the regular ocsellaris.  They are the every day fish and I might just leave that space open for something else.
