Your steps to feeding your fish?
« on: January 26, 2014, 21:03:46 »
I have seen where some people turn off all there pumps and powerheads when feeding. When I feed I see some food blowing into the rocks. At first I'm thinking this is bad. But really there are things in the rocks that need to eat too.
What are your steps and why?

Usually 10-15 steps.... Have to walk from where the food is stored to the tank

I just dump it in... Usually slowly so not much gets sucked into the overflow but I do not turn off any pumps.

Actually need to order more food.... Getting low on flake food

I forgot to add sometimes I Put some garlic in a cup and soak the dry or frozen food in there, I do not soak in garlic daily, usually every other day

  • thaw LRS in small glass of aquarium water
  • use turkey baster to suck some food out of glass
  • squirt a bit of food every once in a while in front of power head

Frozen food into some tank water......thaw......slowly feed into tank, trying to minimize what goes into the overflow.  With the amount of fish I have, not much goes to waste.

1. Thaw frozen food in a cup of tank water.
2. Target feed my Mandarin (using Two Little Fishies Julian's Thing),
3. Turn off the return pump, but leave the powerheads on.
4. Dump the rest of the food near a powerhead and watch chaos ensue.

When I had a lot of fish, I loved to see that. Lol they would go crazy.

I hit "feed mode" on my RK controller which shuts off the return pump and skimmer. The powerheads stay on to circulate the food around the tank. After 30 minutes everything turns back on.

Does anyone turn there powerheads down or off at night? Or is it full flow 24/7?

I use  1 frozen cube of spirilina enriched brine... I open the top....I add 2 scoops of reef chili, 5 drops of step on, and 5 drops of garlic...  I let it dehydrate down to the thickness of very thick tar. I then turn off power heads and return pump. I use a wooden shush kabob sticks and feed the fish... The brine absorbs the additives.  After 5 minutes my circulation pumps turn on.... Anything missed is eaten ... When I have no food left in the water column.... I turn my return pumps back on.
A Indonesian fisherman once stated if we blow up the coral reef we have no future...... But if we do not we no way to feed my family now...... How sad the circumstances are today that ruin the opportunity of the future!
