Yeah, I know its pretty strong, but just something about it puts me on edge, like if I had a 400gal Rimless I would be worried that everyday when I come home, I would have 400gal of water on the floor. But its being done and lasting for God knows how long. I think its just an assurance thing with having a top frame

I believe micki has a tank that was repaired similar to the one in question, and hers is doing well.

Plus if he had uses Nano470, the repair may have been cleaner. There are more videos of this stuff being used. The guy took some glass, glued it to another piece to create a shelf, and stood on it for about a minute i think.

My next tank build, i was thinking about using this stuff to make a all glass build, this way there are no visible silicon lines so it will be a little cleaner. If only i could find someone to buy my current tank off me.

here's the video of him standing on the glass shelf

!

may be overkill for aquarium use, yes, but it seems like a solid product you could trust more than silicon for large tanks.

My only concern with that is how brittle is the product.  I say this because silicone gives you a little wiggle room, as it can bend and flex a LITTLE, and I mean very little without popping a seal.  The levelness of your stand may come into play even more with this nano470 product if it's more of a epoxy, hence hard and more prone to brittleness and fracture.

Just a thought to keep in the back of your mind.

I am impressed with the cure time and strength of the product as you could never do what he did with silicone.

with as strong as that appears, i'm not sure if you would have to worry about it being level and such. Not sure how brittle it would be either if its able to hold that guy on such a small area of glass.

I may be one of those guys that feels secure when everything is built like a tank. Could be just me. But a tank without a top frame, i dont feel secure with, even though i know its more likely that the bottom would blow out than the top.

I'm the same way.......it would be fun to play with some of the stuff to get a feel of how well it works and do a little testing.  You could build some pretty cool tanks, and not having to deal with the mess of silicone is appealing.

Well i wont argue that the epoxy is stronger than the glass... but What's it cost... and any ill effects? I need to take a look at this a little more....

Silicone though still works just fine for that style of patch...

Yep and they have been making aquariums in the 1000+ range with silicon for years and if done right will last for 20+ years. 99% of all aquarium failures are from usually bad stand/uneven, or user error.

its considerably more costly than silicon. its 160 for 200g bottle, ~600 for 1 liter. But it doesnt take much to fill in a crack of glass. But there was no pony show and no stops in the video that i remember seeing with him gluing the glass and standing on it.

Trying to see if they will send a sample.

Is there any data that tells you how strong silicon is? There has to be some limit to the size of tank that you can have using this stuff.

It depends, not all silicon is the same. I believe dow 795 is one of the strongest and thats what most large aquariums use.
