February’s meeting will be at ghurlag’s house

Saturday, Feb 27 @ 3pm

Address is:

REDACTED

Guests can bring some snacks and drinks (my wife will likely make something tasty).  Extra chairs would be nice.

Please post if you will make it and how many you are bringing with you.

I THINK I will be there. Got friends coming in from out of town but I think they leave that day... I'll check before I RSVP for certain. Hope that's the morning they're leaving (not that I wouldn't want them around longer  :D)

In actuality, my water is crystal clear, possibly to a fault.  My xenias aren't pulsing so much now, and I've read that it could be because the skimmer is taking all the dissolved nutrients out, which xenias like.  Of course, with the damsel relocated, the bioload has decreased, but I'm remedying that soon with the addition of some swimmers.

Okay, so, directions...  I'm posting a link to the MapQuest directions I created.  You'll note that I have it starting from the McDonald's on the opposite side of I-75 from my house, but that was just for directions from I-75:

Okay, the link didn't keep my directions.  To get directions from I-75 to my house, follow the above link, and then enter the following as the start address:

Mc Donald's
3570 Commerce Dr, Franklin, OH 45005

It will draw you a nice, pretty map taking 122 West from I-75 (exit 32)

If we still have a club, I am still hosting the February meeting.  Let's just make it a hang out and talk meeting or something.  A sharing of ideas about reef aquariums.  Bring drinks (ALL drinks are welcome in my house :) ), and something snacky or desserty if you are into that sort of thing.  Maybe I can get "Finding Nemo" on Blu Ray :)

Okay, so here is who I have on record as attending.

Hunger
xXTheWendigoXx + 1(tentative)
wolfeden3
Hamiltro + 1.5
~reefchik~
stickboy_107 + 1 (sticks_wife)
chromiumlux (tentative)
aquatic_mouse
Rbunk13
UDFflyer00 + 2

In total, as far as adults go, it appears we will have ~12.  There will be a baby, my son, and UDFlyer00's lil ones.  My wife is (that I know of) making meatballs and fudge.  There are some other things, too.  If you would like to bring something snacky, or a two liter of pop, or other adult beverages, you are more than welcome.

Anyone else who's not on the list, just let me know by replying to this topic.  Just don't want anyone to go hungry or not have a place to site :)

So, tentative totals:

Adults up to ~15 adults and a bunch of hooligans

I know those of you up north are looking at some snow problems.  Let me know if you won't be able to make it.  My wife is going to start cooking tomorrow at some point.

Also, if you know that you are bringing something such as a side dish or dessert, beer, liquor, pop, etc.

Anyone have a topic to cover or are we just gonna wing it and hang out?  I have LEDs and my circuit platform to play with, for you DIY-ers/electrical engineers.

I am looking forward to it!

I recommend hanging out unless someone has a specific request.  Having a demonstration/presentation every single meeting gets tedious.  This looks like it'll be a smaller meeting, so it'll give the new members a chance to hang out and feel welcome - not overwhelmed and with no one to talk to (which is why we sometimes do presentations - so new members won't feel left out).

We were just discussing that.  I think we're going to leave in a couple of minutes.  I know we're going to Marine Solutions (need salt), probably the Jack's by MS (we always hit it up just to look at more stuff), possibly Coral Ranch if there's time (they open at 2 and the meeting is at 3), maybe Coral Pets (if I can convince Will), and maybe Gerbers & Aquatic Specialists on the way back.  Dunno...just depends what I can convince Will to go to.

Sounds like most if my weekends since the beginning of the year with my family :)  This is the first weekend that there isn't any sort of aquatic excursion (other than the meeting) scheduled.  I might end up at Marine Solutions next weekend for some zoas, though...  gotta keep the tradition alive :)  See you soon!

That's a good point.  I thought of that in January when I didn't know anyone...  I have already been to the store, so won't be going back out since we are still tidying the house.  If someone does bring them, I recommend we have our Forum AND real names on the name tags.

Yay Wes and Yay Steph!

Jessica is in the kitchen slaving away (she really loves it).  We have meatballs, fudge, something else and something else that I am too lazy to hollar up and see what...  I have a cooler full of Corona, and some limes for those who are imbibers.  There are also other adult beverages available if anyone is interested, but this is a fish club and not a wine club, so no pressure, and no encouragement on getting smashed.  You are all welcome here for a time, but one the welcome wears out, I do want you to go back home :)

Or, in the immortal words of Semisonic's "Closing Time," "...You don't have to go home but you can't stay here."

Seriously, if we are having fun, everyone is encouraged to stay as long as they like   :3some

Meeting Minutes:

3:00 Brian played prank by parking cars down street to allow for parking, tricked Rbunk13 into thinking no one was home

3:30 Most attendees show up.  Hanging out begins

3:45 Everyone eats and drinks, manages NOT to destroy new carpet :)

4:00 Josh brings in MDS skimmer and runs in my 10g damsel tank, converts ENTIRE TANK into skimmer chamber (subsequent analysis shows that skimmer is extremely effective; Wes takes picture)

4:15 Josh and Wes collectively inform me that the light on my tank barely registers on PAR meter.  30 Watt CFL pull chain lights puts my MH to shame  :'(

4:30-5"ish" Member raffle.  No fist fights break out (this is a plus :) )

5 and after Members slowly meander toward the door, Josh declares jealousy that my tank is so clear, we conclude it is because my PAR doesn't facilitate much nuisance algae growth, which in turn prevents Josh from stirring up my sump to create a mess.

I hope everyone had as great a time as I did

Wish I could have made it. I am a big fan of the nano tanks. Perhaps, I could stop in some time if I am down that way.

Andy, you are more than welcome to stop by anytime.  The challenge is always finding me home, and not working, or doing homework or in class or... :D

Jessica (my wife) also enjoyed having everyone over

I really enjoyed it!  It was great meeting those who attended.
And Jessica is a ROCK STAR in the kitchen, let me tell you guys who missed it.

I'm all excited still over my new little pink birdsnest frag!  I've wanted some for so long but never felt like I had the lights for it.

Many thanks to Cyberwolff who brought the PAR meter over to my place after the meeting and took measurements of my tank (will post in my Pocillopora thread).  After you guys left, I got busy.  The frags are all now superglued in place, rockwork rearranged so that all SPS are in the top 4 inches of water now under the PC/LED combo.  Super Glue gel is the bomb  ;D  And the only casualty was one tiny end of the birdsnest snapped off when the rock tipped slightly into another rock.  All is well today.

I'm hosting July!!!!
