Is there any anemone or coral i can keep in a aquarium without a protein skimmer and regular light fixter with a marine glow bulb?
-
nothing real pretty ...
Colt coral (kenya tree)
Maybe xenias (tentatively saying this)
Are you just getting your feet wet in the hobby I take it ?
Anemones are a definite not gonna happen
-
yeah i've only had salt water for maybe five six months. always had fresh water.
-

You have come to the right place to get help and info ! :)

A guy couple streets over got me wanting corals, he has a 265 tank with tons of coral and pretty tangs. I have a 55 gallon and a penguin filter rated for a 75 gallon tank.

here's a pic of my tank. i have 2 clowns, 3 green chromis, 2 domino damsels, and 1 lawnmower blenny.

Nice and clean ;D Looks like your off to a great start !
I would advise you to start reading through the posts here if you are interested in getting into a reef tank.
Remember the only dumb question is the one that's not asked. There is a lot of good people on this board that are more that willing to help out.
Here is a link to one of my tank profiles just to give you some place to start.

Good idea! I have some you can have even. Or clove polyps, I have some of those as well.
-
I was thinking mushrooms as well ... but ... with the filter he (she) is running I would worry about the nitrates
What do you test for and what are your results ? (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates ect...)
-
i dont know iv seen them grow in some nasty nasty water

Ditto, they just don't care. They actually grow better in dirty water than you would see in most tanks. Same thing with Xenia and alot of the softies.
-
really!? i can have? i just use those strip kits you buy from walmart to test the nitrates and everything. its just color coded and everything is where its supposed to be. i had jacks also just test my water couple of days ago and its good.

Yes you can have. Send me a PM.
And EEEEK! No strip kits, they horribly inaccurate. Buy your own test kits. Especially for Nitrates. The chemicals settle, and separate. So if they aren't shaken well enough by each Jacks employee, they get less accurate over time.

good point

If you want Kenya tree... Mine has gone crazy in my tank and I need to get rid of some decent chunks of it. Let me know and I can hook you up with a couple frags if you want.
If you want some pics, I can snap some.
-
ya snap some pics if you dont mind.
-
So i ordered a new light fixture, got a sump and, a protein skimmer so should be able to keep most corals now. Pretty excited about getting some stuff in the tank.

Well dont keep it to yourself ;D
What type of light... brand of skimmer... ect ... ???
-
Sorry for the slacking on getting the pic of the Kenya tree. I will get picks of it tonight. I have some that are already to be removed from the tank as they decided to just attach to the crushed coral substrate that I use. So they just pull right out of the tank easily.
-
glad to hear u got some goodies
-
lol the light is a DB Solarz T5HO quad and the skimmer is just a sump with the built in protein skimmer not sure of the brand.
-
here is an updated picture of my tank with the new light and sump/protein skimmer.
-
