Cleaning Sand
« on: October 16, 2011, 11:29:19 »
I've had my sand from my old tank sitting in buckets.     What is the best way to get this clean........

And yes I have considered this option:  Buy new sand and let someone buy the old sand and let them clean it.   So easy and effective.

I have cleaned it and it does suck as bad as you think it does... I had a 5g bucket full of water. I would do few cupfuls at a time until the water ran clear then transfere it to a "clean" bucket... few cups at a time.  tedious and smells horrible lol

Electrical Engineers do it on impulse, with faster rise times, with more power, and less resistance at higher frequencies, without shorts, until it Hertz

Handfuls from holding bucket into another bucket, rinse until clear.  Don't overload rinsing bucket to allow for plenty of agitation.

I put mine on an old fiberglass window screen outside and lightly hosed it down. Spread it on a piece of plywood and dried it out in the sun for a few days.

Worked great for me.

I bet the sun really kills any leftover bacteria that is holding on.  Good idea.
