Ya - I HAD a pearly jawfish that jumped out last night through my egg crate.  Found him this am behind the tank.  I temporarily have egg crate until my canopy get set up.  I really liked that fish too

how high up would an acrlyic ledge have to be off the top of the tank?? almost like a fence around the edge of the tank?  My tank is in the wall so the appearance doesnt need to be considered.

i didnt like the look when i put the egg-crate on the tank either.  I have it.. just dont like it

It does lose light.  I plan on putting egg crate vertically on the back opening of my canopy when I put it on.  I used glass tops but they stop light also.

I would think the higher the better.  If I had to guess, I would probably say 6 inches?  But then again, I have never done it.

Lost a 6 line that way.  Mad a new hood that fit the tank perfectly.  Have a piece of plexiglass over the overflow.....yes he go in there too.  Not as bad as the floor, but every tried to get a wrasse out of an overflow?

Had my latest 6 line jump out while I was cleaning the tank.  Heard a splash, but didn't think about it.  About 10 minutes later turned around, and there he was sitting on the floor.  Took about 8 hours, but he was eating that night.

Yes I have 6 glass plates over the water that lay on the frame/support.  I have 3 250 MH bulbs.  My sump is in an open room "sump room" with an ATO.  A few times I toyed with taking the glass off and the hinges on my canopy got tight really fast!

larry are you running a dusk and dawn cycle or do your halides just come on, if you run a t5 light or some other form of less intense light before the halides kick on it should help with jumping with some fish.
If you didn't know I'm kind of a big deal...
