fish eggs, fish eggs, rolly polly fish eggs :)
« on: August 19, 2009, 12:45:42 »
I noticed the other day that my percs have eggs!

They have been guarding them closely all week.

The eggs have darkened and also there seems to be less of them now.

I have read some on raising clownfish babies and it seems like a rather extensive process.

Has anyone had success, or heard of a less detailed process.

Hey if nothing else I can say I have a mated/ breeding pair of percs  :)
Thanks and God Bless,
John

Congrats, mine lay eggs about every 6-8 days.  I've only see the fry hatch once and then it usually becomes fish food.

The big hassle seems to be raising the rotifers. We are lucky enough to be able to get them locally at Aquatic Specialists. Look into culturing photo (I'm gonna write a howto on it this weekend (I SWEAR)). It seems like a pretty doable task. You have essentially and endless supply of fry to experiment with. I Think you should give it a shot. I'd be willing to buy some from you :)

Is the title of the thread a parody to the Barnes & Barnes song titled "fish heads" from the late 70's?

Pretty obscure reference........and funny

Yes, but to be honest Joel, the fact that you knew the artist makes it even more obscure!

I looked last night and all of the eggs are gone (I figured as much!).
By the way does anyone have a suggestion of how to get the eggs off the glass, or do I just need to hope that they lay them on a rock next time?
Thanks and God Bless,
John

The Eggs darken as they approach the end of their incubation. Apparently. on the 8th night after they are laid, they hatch. Once they do, you turn off your pump and hold a flashlight over the tank. They are drawn to the light. Then you simply scoop them out with a cup.

I will try the light thing next time mine hatch.  Mine start out orange then turn silver before they hatch.  I read somewhere that if you put a piece of tile in there they will lay eggs on it and you can move it to a different tank the day before they hatch.

I tried the tile thing, the clowns just laid the eggs somewhere else.  As soon as I took the tile out they went right back to the old spot.

I have heard slate.  I put a flat piece of live rock in but they weren't interested.
