Waste Collection Cup on Skimmer
« on: December 14, 2009, 12:34:17 »
I want to put an overflow on my HOB skimmer... Where in the collection cup should I drill? and what kind of tubing/piece should I connect to the skimmer? I was going to have it connect to a milk jug so that I can just replace the jug.... Anyone have any idea?

Are you skimming heavy?  Reason I ask, you really need to clean the inside neck of the collection cup every other day (if not every day) in order for the skimmer to work properly.  Unless your skimmer has a habit of running over why risk cracking the acrylic?  Its still gonna have to come off to clean.  And if your not gonna clean it then why bother with having a skimmer.

A safer method is to install a float switch in the cup lid that turns the skimmer off if it fills up. I installed a drain on my HOB skimmer and it was nothing but problems.

You should be able to use a regular float switch. I have one you can borrow it see if it fits.
