Better heal that fish and step it up.  ORA will have neon gobys in no time lol

I do LOVE the captive bred weaned to pellets idea.  that should bring new hobbiests deaths down (if they are willing to pay ORA price) and if they do die at least it wasnt a wild collected specimen

A) Thanks for the sympathy, Wes. And
B) MY gobies are ORA  ;D

I love anything that isn't taken from the wild. If I had the room I should setup a large system for breeding fish.

I think the club should work on a project like that, or work with another organization that is already working on it.  That would be awesome, but dunno if Ohio has anything like that going right now.

I got basement space. Whats a good species to breed?  ;D

I was talking to someone the other day, There has to be some medical product to "entice" breeding.  Or some fertility drug.  How amazing would it be to safely get larger tangs to breed captivity in smaller (~150) systems.

Its called alcohol! Maybe we should try some beer in our tanks, it seems to work with humans.

Yanno, if that were true, the vodka dosers would have fry coming out the tops of their tanks.  Wish it were that easy!

 :D

I've been thinking of setting up a breeding tank too.  The next new challenge.  I'm incorrigible.  I was thinking of Bangaiis and see where it leads from there.

Id want to breed something worth a little more, for the trouble.  You figure raising fry will be almost the same about of work for any species, so mine as well breed something you can get decent cash for

Depending on how large of a system you have and the money you have to invest in broodstock to be sure you get a pair/trio Tons of things are being bred these days.  Puffers, Lions!!

This is exciting news. I tried a Mandarin once and watched helplessly as it starved over the period of a year. Seems as the trend has been going for less and less rock in the display keeping them fed is difficult and seeing less and less mandarin's in the hobby long term.

the large majority (over 80%) of wild caught mandarins that I have worked with will accept frozen foods. Dragonets are all very slow fish and need to be given the opportunity to eat. Confining a mandarin in a small area free of obstructions, and shooting some brine or small mysis shrimp towards the bottom usually does the trick. Once a mandarin becomes more accustom to frozen foods, it can compete for food in an aquarium if there arent enough pods to go around.

That is some good advice, a friend of mine wants a mandarin and perhaps I could acclimate to frozen food in my quarantine tank over time. How long does it usually take?

I trained mine while in the DT. It just took longer. I got it going into the mandrin diner after a few weeks.

Most of the mandrins AS sells Justin has got them to eat frozen brine. He showed me before I bought it.

I can get about 90% of them to eat frozen food, and usually with in about a week. Which is odd seeing how there are countless pods running around in the cubes. The difficult thing is making sure that they are able to get the food before anybody else does. I have even had them trained to come and eat right out of a pipette.

That IS cool.  I've always wanted one, but couldn't stand the idea of it starving.  Unless I have lots of macro in my tanks, I never see pods.  And with this foxface now, I'll never have any macro again.
