Florida to ban lion fish in aquariums?

Did anyone else see anything about this? I saw the link to an article on Facebook, but I was unable to load it.

Yes, all importation of lion fish is now illegal in Florida.  All wholesaler, fish stores etc are not allowed to sell/stock/import the fish.  I do not know how this affects people who have the fish already in their aquariums....

Some fish stores and wholesalers stopped the importation of this fish weeks/months ago due to knowing this was going to happen soon.

There is also a article where I believe a 9 or so year old girl did a study on the fish.  She found that the Lionfish can survive in brackish water which the article states scientists who study the animal were not aware of that.

Lionfish being released in the wild and taking over.

Like stated people buy these fish and they outgrow their tank.... Dump them in the ocean.... Then they reproduce and are taking over areas of the reef.  Divers are suppose to kill the fish if they see them and their have been many trips around Florida to just kill the fish.  They have no natural predators down there and are making it very difficult for native fish to survive

Similar situation to certain snakes that have been released into the Everglades

The ban is way to broad, in my eyes. But it is a ban on all lion fish nun the less. The biggest problems are the voliton lion fish. They eat a lot and eat big. They are taking over Florida waters like mad.

It actually only affects the Pterois family of lionfish, and only in Florida, effective August 1,2014.   Granted those are the most popular in the aquarium trade.   The ban does not restrict current owners in the state, however the fish cannot be carried across the state line by hobbies.

You can harvest all you want in Florida waters, however, Im not sure if they are allowed to sell them live to hobbyists.

The current issue of Coral Magazine is nearly dedicated to this issue.
