I’d really like to participate in this, however, I can’t be at the meeting because I have to work. Are there any alternative pickup times or methods?

Ohioreefjr, one us can pickup your coral. Experimentation can be risky. A coral on steroids? LoL

What “basic water parameters” do we need to provide (i.e. do I have to test my water)?  😉

I just picked up some of the things I’ll need for it. Just gotta order 1 more thing. Hoping this is as successful as someone else claims they were.

If you can't make the meeting, you can have someone else pickup your frag as Gary suggested, or you can pickup at my house at an alternative time.  Text 937-287-8104.  Jim

Basic Water Parameters -Just the parameters that each individual test or tracks on their system. Some people track or test little to nothing. For me basic is temperature, Kh, Ca, Mg, and salinity.

Sometimes my husbandry skills aren't the best but I do strive for consistency.  Some zoas do well and others just dwindle.

Here is the contraption i am using to attempt my grow out. Someone on the FB reef page claims to have really good growth with his “reef jar” so I’m taking a stab at it. It’s 1/2gal currently has a compact fluorescent light on it until the LED shows up. The zoas didn’t open up very well today, so I’m still trying to figure out things.

Nitrate 3-5
Salinity 1.025
Lighting is a kessil A360WE at 100% blue 100% intensity and a kessil A150 sky blue.

Snails and crabs keep jostling it’s position, but it’s opened up well.  All heads look happy!

10 gallon Nuvo Fusion
35 ppt/1.026 salinity
10 drops/day phyto - it’s a variety that has a feeding response and opens its mouths when phyto is added, just like the sunnyD colony behind it.

Three polyps with 2 babies.

Alk 7.5
Ca 360
Mag 1380
Salinity 1.026
Nitrates I haven't checked in months. Prob about 20.
Phos not sure.
Lighting Viper Spectra 12 hours blue, 9 hours whites
PAR about 150
Temp 78
PH 8.0 (night) with new meter that needed calibrating. Not sure I got it exact, never really worry about PH much if Alk is stable.
My SPS are growing well and since I have been opening the windows I have had to adjust my Ca and Alk several times and need to do it again.
Frag tank flow Aqua Clear HOB filter and Hydor Nano, Guessing low to med.

Water change within the past week, seeing some cyano now.  Most zoanthids in the tank are still looking good, but montis are dead and lone Duncan head finally bailed out.  I really need to get the 75 going...

Nothing too impressive, but a definite change since I took them out of the “jar” tank I had them in. They have been in this tank about 2 weeks now, looking much better, grew a new head much better color. Not sure on parameters, I don’t have my test equipment it’s at my buddies house.

so   I recently had green algae cover up 6 of 8 polyps. They stopped opening. to remedy this i found a suggestion to peroxide dip the frag. I scooped up some tank water, enough to cover the zoa, andd put the zoa into the container. I added H2O2 slowly until it started bubbling. i squirted the liquid around. then returned the frag to the tank. all of the algae disappeared. I am waiting for the zoa to either recover or not. one polyp has started to open.
wish me luck.

What do you have going on that failed to grow a zoa? How are the rest of your corals doing?

when i look at testing results
   4/11/20 vs 8/5/20
      pH 8.1    7.8
 sp.gr.1.024   1.026
 Ca    321      413
Mg  975       1230
nitrate 0       2
phos   ?        0.1
KH     6       11.2
Temp. 80    80
to me the biggest change would be the KH i think i have some rock (manmade) dissolving; WC perked it up for a bit.  i have other stuff that seems to be ok  i moved it up and down in the tank.

I know everyone has an opinion Dave but I would lower the alk some. Your mag is low as is your Calc. I know you don’t have a lot of corals so probably not using much of either but I would boost them some. Lower the alk slowly if you do lower it. How are the sticks doing?

they look good and i will be doing WC's to lower the ALK. the mix is at 8.6 so that should bring it down. plus i removed the suspect rock. thank you sir.
