Title: Auto top off group buy.
Post by: verper on May 16, 2006, 16:35:18
Anyone else interested in this group buy?  I'm a member of CORA also but I'm sure we could get in on this as the seller said any Ohio based reef club member.

Ok so to clarify, this would be a kit that would go on something to auto top off our system correct?  (Ok this kind of thing is NOT my strong point. )  :)

No, I believe these are premade units that are just as cheap as a DIY kit that CSEA was talking about making.  That's why they are opting for buying them instead of making them.

Right I got that part, but can it be used for auto top off only?  I don't don't need kalk with this correct?

Correct.  It is for RO or Kalk top off.

Ok after looking at the thing, I don't get it...  What actually pumps the water?

A little micro pump built into it- didn't you see it?   ;D

No, you plug a small pump into it.  It is 2 float sensors and a built in timer to keep from over topping off your system should a float stick or get jambed by a snail.

OK...  Now were talking (in a New York Accent)  :)    so I would need to also get a pump to go with this thing (since I can't see the micro pump  :)  )  What else would I need.  (I'm sure if Randy read this he would tell me I'm a ding dong and that it makes perfect sense  :)  )

Cool!  I can do the water!  :D  I'll show this to Randy tonight when he gets home.  Right now our float valve is hooked directly into the RO line and I don't like that.  Randy doesn't think it's that big a deal, but I do.

An Aqualifter pump would probably work great.

We have the float valve thingy if we could get the water in a large enough container up high we could do what we've been doing just not hooked directly into the RO/DI line.

I am interested but not sure what else I would need

my RO unit is in my basement & 1 floor up & probably 40ft away is where the reef tank is.  Presenly I just carry a bucket of water to the tank every few days.  Thus a auto top-off would be very nice!

On another note, do you have to have a RO to use one of these?  My tank at my house is a FO tank & I would love to not have to mess with topping off the water.  However RO isn't needed

No, you wouldnt have to use RO. All this unit does is control a small pump. You just need a container to put your top-off water in along with a small pump.

duh... :violent1:  .... didn't think of that!  I could just have a tub in my furnace room with the doser thingy pumping water from there.

I think I am going to need 2 of them :)

I'm going for 1 myself.  We'll have to see if anyone else is interested.  I've PM'd the guy organizing the group buy.  When I get more info I'll post it.
