help my LTA
« on: December 04, 2008, 19:24:55 »
i have two long tentacle anenome's. they have both been fine but
in the last 48 hrs one has been looking odd. it tentacles are about
2/3 normal length but are about 4 times fatter then normal. they
look like translucent little sauasages. also it trunk and foot area seem
to be alittle more extended. any ideas or thought's? i have not checked
the parameter's yet but everything else is looking good.
thanks

I believe they may sometimes swell (as do corals) like that if they are receiving excess light.  Any changes in light?

Could also be a respiratory response.  How is the oxygen exchange in your tank?

no changes in light. i havn't changed anything really to effect the oxygen exchange.
i will point the PH's up alittle just in case. this one is probably 3 inches lower than
the other. i am getting ready to feed and will observe and post anthing that i notice.
thanks

It would not seem that it is an environmental issue because I would think they both would react negatively, not just one of them. It seems  more localize problem, perhaps it has been picked on or irritated. It is possible that mucus containing sting cells from another coral has contacted it (toad stool are bad about doing this) Might be preparing to split / divide. The transparency could be zooanthely bail out or just now that the tentacles are thicker, the algae is not as dense. The description unfortunately is not indicative of a specific ailment.

their is not a toadstool in this tank. the only thing close is some
ricordia and couple of green yuma. our large female GSM clown
hosts this one and the male hosts the other. she is pretty territorial
so i don't think another fish or invert would be picking on it. this
morning the base foot area is larger yet in width and still kinda thin
front to back but kinda hard to tell.
