moving fully encrusted sps

Anyone have any luck moving  a fully encrusted sps coral?  I have a smaller piece of a blue milli that is fully encrusted that I will need to move.  It is only about 1-2inchs away from a larger piece of tricolor and both pieces are growing well.  Moving the rocks are not an option.  I hate to hack up the base of it but I dont see any other way.  I dont know if I should move it now or wait till they begin to touch each other.  This coral has not grown much in the last year but has just recently started to take off with growth.  Any suggestions would be appreciated

you could try cutting or breaking of close to the base and maybe another frag will grow in its place
