The beginnning of my reef tank
« on: February 23, 2013, 14:32:37 »
So it has begun. My first corals added. Some red mushrooms and an alevapora.  I was amazed I feel like I'm doing something right because I was told they would shrink and hide for a few days.  But this is just after only a few hours for the alevapora and 12 hours for the mushrooms

What should I add next any sugguestions I'm trying to stay with some hardy ones first.  And any tips are always nice.

Corals closing up when the lighting goes out is not unusual.

Get that pineapple a little closer to the GSP and you will have a pineapple with carpet. I think it is great to get the kids involved, my grandaughter loves to tell everyone what all the different stuff in my tank is. Looks great.

One thing I seen that I was wondering about (besides spongebob) was the powerhead in the sump??? That is where you want the debris to collect so it is is easy to clean and the Cheato will grow using the debris

Really some one told me it was a good ideal to stop the debris from settleting so it gets either protien skimmed or traped in some of my mechanical filtration then removed that way. I don't have one in the refug so anything that makes it there does not get moved out. The flow out of Tue refug is only 150ph so everything will settle in there.

I target feed my duncans as well but just once a week. I have found that when I slowly moved them up higher in the column over the course of a few weeks their colors really start to pop. Not that I would recommend the higher light,it just worked out for me :)
