Meyer Plastics
« on: August 21, 2009, 16:56:00 »
Okay, just got back from Meyer. They are well worth the trip.

Weld-on 3/4 $3.40/4oz

28ga syringe are $1.95

48" x 96" x .25" sheets are $96

48" x 96" x .5" sheets are $233

They have a ton of scrap that is really cheap if you're paying cash. I got 6 7"x24" pieces for $10.

Didn't ask about cuts. They where about to close when I got there. Next time I talk to them I will ask. I'm very happy with what I got. All my scape is still wrapped in paper and the edges are neat.

That's where we buy from.

I think chloroplast is like $9 from there or something too if anyone needs it.

Are these syringes reuseable? Or are they more or less ruined after their use?

They are fine. The rubber in the plunger dries out though. Rinse and dry them after you are done.

No! The Weld-On isn't Acrylic. It "Welds", or melts it together. Its more than just an adhesive, its a chemical reaction with the Acrylic itself. And the stuff is tough.

Which weld-on did you get? The stuff I used, 13 I think, was thinner than water.

Justin showed me how to do it, stop by and ask him about it.

Do not let any Weld-On sit in the needle or leave the cap off the container it does evaporate quickly. Some advice: get it right the first time it is some pretty stong stuff and it does not take a whole lot! Put it right on the joint and move right up it fairly quickly, the stuff really spreads and penetrates well. Try it on some scraps first until you get the hang of it, just a recommendation! ;)

The "weld"ing is the easy part.  Getting you pieces cut exactly to size, and then polishing the edges is the fun part.

Its all easy.  Make it oversized, then router off the excess, then if its a glued edge sand and polish it is a non glued edge break out the torch and flame polish it.

I'm pretty sure, they have a huge warehouse. I meant to ask if they did but I completely forgot.

EDIT: I'm 99% sure. They do signage so they have to have all colors

Sanding Sucks......no matter how you look at it.   We should do a essential tool list rundown in the other thread.

Did my first joint last night, looks pretty good. Just a few bubbles, but the pieces where saw cut and I used a brush no a syringe. Now I gotta haul this all to my parents house so I can use my dad's router/wholesaws

Practice man! The stuff is weird. I was reading about its "Capillary Action", thats what they called it. Then you actually use it, and its odd. It gets sucked up into the joints, very cool stuff.
