Here are a few pictures of my DIY 210 gallon painted aquarium background project. If you choose to paint your aquarium background, make sure the glass is clean first with some type of glass cleaner before you paint. You can either spray or hand paint the glass. Do so in several thin coats ensuring that the previous coat is dry before applying the next.
When all the coats are applied wait until it is completely dry before touching it or moving the tank. The paint does not attach that well to glass and can easily peel.
Day One pictures posted below. I applied 4 cans royal blue spray paint from Ace Hardware. I will need to apply another 3 or 4 cans of spray paint to finish the job.

I used Krylon Fusion and it adhered very well to the glass. I painted my first tank blue, but I like the black on my second one better.

Any reason why not to paint the overflows other then wasting the paint?

Maybe so you can see in the overflow if anything happens? Scott didn't paint our overflow either. I'm just guessing.

Good guess. Like missing fish, aptasia, steel screw that dropped into the water but you don't know where it went, etc.

Sounds like you are speaking from experience! My Neon Dottyback is obsessed with the overflow. I've fished him out of there more than a few times.

I do not recommend painting the overflows for the reasons mentioned above by mrs.justcoral and verper.

The background on the new tank should have been painted on the first day ;) Ace Hardware ran out of the paint I need, so the background project will take a few more days to complete.

i brushed the back of my tank with whatever black paint i had laying around in the garage...

We have an Ace in Tipp. The paint could be delivered at the swap. ;)

My local Ace Hardware had some more paint delivered today.
