Very nice structural design  :-ThumbUpsm

The structural loads look to be transferred well.

Thank you. I will need to wait until the weekend after this one to do the outside(of the stand). I figure I could probably do the rest in just a few days. Then It's on to drilling the tank and baffling the sump. :)

Just started painting...

We are getting there...

All done! I didn't bother to paint the bottom(inside) because I will be putting down plywood anyways.

The build is going about as fast as a snail.

I decided to have some fun and see what the 55g(I had it in the garage already) would look like on the stand...yeah, it would probably look like a 55 gallon tank on a stand.

Well I went and lifted it up and set it on the stand.

I lined it up to the edges of the stand. Then I realized the tank is longer than the stand...it's about a 3/8" difference. Hmm...I may add some of the 1/2" ply to one end of the stand. Then I will build off of that.

This build is going about as slow as a snail can travel.

Orginally I was going to go for an all back background like I di for the 29g. But Instead I have decided to to a gradient (black-to-blue) background on a .10" sheet of acrylic. I should look something like this.

that looks cool... I wish i could figure a way to change my background coloring... it's painted black... I'd much rather have it blue

I'll be sure to post a thread about it in the "I Made This" board when it's done.

I will airbrush it in the art room at school if I have time before the school year lets out. If not, then I will use spray paint.

Seano, this is amazing. As a beginner I really appreciate the detail and explanation of the rationale in your choices. What program do you use for your drawings? I look forward to seeing the continued progress. All the best Dave

I greatly apologise for the nearly 2 month late reply. But thank you for the complement. I have given this build a lot of though. But sadly, since my last post nothing has happened in this build. I don't have money to pay for the hobby right now. So that is why I don't get on much any more. Hopefully I can find a job and that will change though. BTW, I use Google Sketchup 8 for my drawings.

If I can't directly stay in the hobby by having a reef tank, I will still visit here every once in a while (hopefully more often than I have been). But in the time I was gone I had my school exams and now basically all of June I have been planning a new company. It is still in the works even now. I am typing up my business plan this week and hope to get a few prototypes built soon. Have a look for yourselves.

Here is the website...not quite finished yet.

*Sigh...*

So on Tuesday I went to drill the 75g and it turns pout the tank was tempered. I did check beforehand but didn't see the mention of it as it was simply engraved in a far corner of the end of the tank. So the entire back panel of the tank shattered into many pieces.

I cannot afford to buy a new tank and I was already struggling to get the stuff I need for a 75g tank.

So my build will now be for my 29g tank, which has been up and running fine since January 4th of this year. I am not sure if I should make this my 29g build thread or if I should  go back to my 29g build thread and continue? Whichever people would prefer, I will do and then update the 29g there or here.

Thanks,
Sean.

Wow, That's a bummer, no I would say your just fine posting updates here... Did you see about having a glass company getting you a new pane for your tank, since it's a back piece if they have a scratched up panel at a discount you could always paint it to hide most of the scratches.

Though if your like me, as soon at it broke, the rest of the tank would have been in pieces in the street.

I thought it was funny. lol. I was wanting to do that, but didn't feel like hauling the tank to the curb by myself. haha.

I think now would be an appropriate time to update the thread with some photos.

I am not sure if I mentioned this already? ...but in mid-June I went to my sister's house in BG. I was there for 2 weeks and the tank overheated - I am assuming the suspect to be my Marineland Stealth pro 250w heater. the water got to 92.5* F...practically all my coraline algae died....3 of 5 hermits died. Fortunately, that was the only livestock.

...and no for the photos.

Here is one of the two lone survivors.

...and when I came home I imediately unplugged the heater. it's been warm enough lately that the controller has a water temp. reading of 77* F. It's been pretty steady around that temperature since I unplugged the heater nearly two weeks ago.

Surprisingly enough, the water is still crystal clear. I only have a skimmer on the tank for filtration. I haven't been doing water changes and I don't run carbon.

Then a few days ago I eneded up shattering the back wall to my 75g tank while attempting to drill it(didn't realize it was tempered). Here it is today after I cleaned up the mess. The duct tape edge is where the glass is stuck in place still. So I put tape on it so nobody would get hurt on it as they waked by.

Here is the 10g sump I will be using. I just need to silicone in the glass. The Coralife 125 won't fit in it so I will let it hang on the back of the sump, in the cabinet.

The skimmer will go on the left by the filter sock and the right side will be my return. I have another 10g which will be my refugium tank. I just need to find a place to put it as it won't fit inside the new stand.

A new cabinet will be built as soon as I can get some wood to build it. More about the cabinet later.

The skimmer is running great. I should probably just clean out the airline tubing to the pump.

You can kind of get a look at the diatoms in this picture....it's mainly along the edges of thee glass and on the powerheads.

This rock on the right was entirely covered in purple coraline algae.

Here are white spots where coraline used to be growing.

Lastly, here is a FTS I just took a few days ago.

I thought it would be cool to add some shots of the tank with the room lights off. Here you go, everyone. :)

I can't wait to get the equipment out of there and into the sump...should look much better.

Presumed Stocking List:

Fish:
mated pair of pink skunk clownfish
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+27+2545&pcatid=2545

Inverts:
2 pacific cleaner shrimp
2 pederson shrimp
3 or 5 sexy shrimp
squamosa clam
maxima clam
tube anemone
BTA

Coral:
misc. zoanthids - looking for oranges and yellows
acans - looking for blues and purples (found on 10dollarfrags)
favids - looking for greens and reds (found on 10dollarfrags)
Monti cap. - 1 orange and 1 green
M. undata

As I look at the different corals I like, I am thinking I will have many more LPS than SPS..but I will have a mixture of everything. I plan too have a little corner of the tank just for scolly's. I saw it done in a picture of a LFS someone else posted on 3reef. I am gonna follow their idea. :)
Maybe some Acros and Millis

To Do List:
1. Get lumber to build new aquarium cabinet
2. Build new aquarium cabinet
3. Switch out cabinet for new one
4. Silicone baffle in sump
5. Move skimmer to sump / plumb sump into DT
6. Re-aquascape
7. Get CUC from Reef Cleaners

Then I can add livestock.

8. Set up ATO system
9. Install lights
10. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show
