Just wondering who has one of the 230, 250 or 280 gyres? BRS has the 250 at $70 off right now and I’m thinking of getting one. I’m just hesitant because I tried the Icecap 3k and had to send it back because of the noise. My fish room is very quiet. What do you owners think?

I have 2 of the 250’s.
Dead silent

No issues with air bubbles making them noisy?
-
Jesse,
I run a 230 upstairs and no real issues with noise or bubbles.
-
No. That happens when they are mounted to high and suck air.

Thanks guys, I think I might go for it.

I have an original 250 and a newer generation one, both are rock solid, you can hear them wine a little at the highest speed. The old one more so than the newer one. They were much quieter than the MP40's I used to run.

I have an ice cap 3k. I have found that the noise is from air bubbles getting trapped on the impellers the air compresses and cavitates. I program a 5second off time for every 30mins and keeps it quite

I thought you had mentioned them before. I think the 250 is probably overkill for my 75 but running it low speed should ensure its silence. Thanks Paul.

FWIW, I had 1 XF250 for the first 8 months. At 60-70% it moved water from one end to the other easily. 5’ long, 108 gallons.
Now I have 2 working in alternate patterns at 40-50% most of the time.

It was still quiet at 60-70%? I currently use 2 WAV pumps. No matter where I put them, I have dead spots in one corner or another. My thought is to put the gyre on one end and a WAV on the other end and I should get rid of the dead spots. Then I could get a 1Link and connect 1 of the WAV’s to my other tank.

Yes it is.

Did you have any dead spots in the tank when you only had one? Any sand piling issues?
-
I have plenty of room behind my rocks and in the front of the tank. All sand stayed clean.
Sand blew on the bottom front a bit as it was wide open, but minimum piling.
Once I added my big clam and a few rocks in the front, there was no piling.
The middle of the tank is what lacks flow with the gyre.
I’ve ordered a larger return pump and 2 VCA random flow nozzles and will be using those for mid tank flow vs more power heads.
