Does anyone know if there is anything that eats this stuff?

My YT never touched the stuff. I ended up getting a sea hare to eat it. You can see my battle with HA at www.ohioreef.com/hair.html

I had it pretty bad & what worked for me was

-remove the wet dry filter
-add a protein skimmer

it's been fine ever since :)
300g tub o fish

I just got done with a BIG battle against it.  I went and got a sea hare and it has been doing ok, but the thing that did it for me was changing my RO/DI filters (I hadn't changed them in almost 2 years).  I did two thirty-five gallon water changes and you can't even tell it was there.

I do have a skimmer its a Remora, and as far as the water changes I change about 5 gallons a week. I just talked to Joel about cyano in which he gave me a fix for that but said that I needed to fix the root cause of the problem in order for it to go away completely. I figured with all the additional water changes that I would be ok but no luck. This is really my first small reef tank (under 55 gallons) and it has given me more problems than all the others. I do plan on adding a sump/fuge as soon as I can but for now this is it. Its crazy! The only thing I can think of is the source water which is tap water, but it will probably be income tax before I can buy an RO/DI unit.

Lawn Mower Blenny took care of it when I had it in a 20 gallon.

sea hare worked great for me but after the algae was gone there was nothing for it to eat.  I loaned it out until the algae came back.(it will come back)

I would love to buy a yellow tang, or a foxface but my biggest limitation right now is the size of the tank.

I did buy a lawnmower about a week ago from Jacks, but I have not seen any grazing on the hair algea yet. I do love lawnmower blennies though they have a great personality. He/she is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long, very small.

Neither of the LMBs that I had would touch the stuff!

I definately think that the tap water is most likely your primary contributor. Not sure how close you live to any of the other members, but certainly there is someone here that would be willing to help ya out with some RO/DI water. I'd be willing if you're not too far away. How much are you using on a weekly basis?

Edit: Just noticed that you are in Sidney. PM sent.

I could be wrong but I believe Aquarium's Ect will be selling R.O. water in the near future.  Not sure when though.

I appreciate that Micki. I think my biggest problem besides having to use tap water is the fact that I do not have a sump/fuge yet. I need to buy an overflow, and a return pump still. Due to Christmas coming up it will probably be after the holidays until I get a working system going. For now I will have to deal with the hair algea, and cyano.
