Floor reinforcement
« on: September 09, 2011, 21:12:46 »
So I'm already doing research and checking out some 90+ gal tanks.  My concern is that I will have to reinforce the floor.   I currently have my 55gal against a wall on the end of the house.  I have no problem with it.  The house it about 40-50 years old.

I have a 80-90 gallon with a approx 20g sump/fuge with no problems sitting perpendicular to my floor joists against an outside wall in a house that is approximately 60 years old.

I think that you should be fine with 90g, its when you get over 100g (800 lbs) that i would be worried. But if you can jump up and down and see the tank sway, lol, then i would put some supports up. Or if you are paranoid and want to make sure nothing crazy ever happens, put some support beams up. A couple 2x4's glues and a slice of osb in the center glued and screwed together will be strong enough to hold any amount of weight. I'd run them from the ground to the underside of the floor joists.
